Pasta, Garden, Ice cream, Seattle, Last week

    Published: Jul 10, 2012 · Modified: Aug 7, 2014 by Richa 29 Comments

Random Pictures from the vacation week. I tried to click food pictures during the week, but gave up and then it was just the phone and some interesting pictures. It was a great break, just going around seattle, without a plan, taking it easy and doing some things we werent able to get to in the past few months.

Ice cream and random talks at Kerry Park…
View from our building Terrace. you can barely see Mt Rainier :). Every year we think of finding a bigger place with a yard, but nothing comes close to living close to downtown, with great views, a few blocks from the water and people at all times of the day! I think this small condo is enough for us for a few more years. 8 years in Seattle this year.
Another meal .. Potatoes and Bell peppers with Fennel and nigella seeds. Saunf aur kalonji waale Aloo shimla mirch.
A few places we hit last week… minis at Mighty-o-donuts , sandwich and soup from Chaco Canyon, Yam Fries from Plum bistro (yumm yamm).
Curry corn chowder, GF Lasagna and GF multigrain bread rolls(the lasagna was to die for and the rolls were really delicious, did not taste like a gf bread at all, and I need to crack that code) from Flying Apron Bakery. Lotsa Icecreams(Full tilt, molly moon, so delicious), random pizzas, lotsa samosas and more.
It sure is hard to get back to any kind of work, even regular cooking, after a break:)

Most days, this is how our Pastas come about. Pasta is one of the creative cooking outlets for hubbs, so I try not to add my touch to it 😉
Conversation when hubbs is in the kitchen..
Hubbs: Lets make some pasta and also finish up the veggies. We have broccoli, portabella mushrooms, radish, tomatoes and greens(Kale, Collard)
    Me: choose a pasta
H: Oooh I like that colorful one
M: Thats Tomato and Spinach shells. Sauce?
H: I dont want any cream, lets keep it Fresh, just tomato is fine.
    M: Herbs?
H: dont know, i’ll get some from the balcony.
    M: get some thyme
H: got some pointy green ones and some cilantro type
    M: thats thyme and parsley.
H: Parsley smells good! and strong. lets add that for sure.
M: The pasta is in the pot cooking. Chop and saute some garlic, and veggies in a little oil on medium heat, covered for 5-7 minutes. Add greens, halved grape tomatoes, herbs, salt and black pepper/chili if you want. Mix and cook for another 2 minutes. Add the drained pasta. Toss, taste(carefully, its hot), and adjust to taste, cover and cook for a minute. and call me if needed.
H: 15 minutes later. This pasta is awesomeee. Cooking is fun!. gobble gobble. mmmmmm.. nom nom..
Me: you should cook more often 😉 .. Wait let me take a picture or 20.
Molly Moons is not a vegan ice cream shop. Recently they started offering vegan ice cream options along with the usual sorbets. And the current option- Cherry Chocolate chunk in a coconut base, is amazing! Alsopictured Carrot Ginger Sorbet.

We got our urban garden patch on top of Queen Anne Hill on the 4th floor of the Seattle Center Parking lot. How cool is this Up-garden! With amazing views, great breeze, some lawns thrown in. This weekend is going to be lots of gardening.
    Right beside the Needle.

Our balcony garden yield of Potatoes, baby garlic and a strawberry. We have one strawberry plant and pick 1-2 strawberries every week. More balcony garden pictures here

Ice cream you dont want to miss.. is the Cookies and Cream from So Delicious! Yes, no Ice cream picture, coz that carton is empty 😉
    Chewie at Magnuson park Beach
A pretty return gift from a friends Baby Shower. Good luck to you Mona! Hope I win the guessing game;)
Thats a quick snapshot of last week. Also, a new addition to the blog….
Instant Post search! as you type. Check it out on the right side bar top.
Trying to find the creative energy this week.. Ommmmmmm. And back to visiting all blogs! I missed talking to you all.

What a brilliant week you’ve had! I agree with you about living in the heart of a city in a smaller place as opposed to one with a yard in the suburbs. Hubby and I live in the heart of Bangalore and as much as I dream of a large garden, I would never want to leave here. 🙂

Besides, larger houses are for people with (human) kids.

Your post makes me miss Seattle! It’s such a beautiful place and is a great mix of city & natural beauty. We went there on our one year wedding anniversary. That was 5 years ago! Another trip is definitely in order!

It is awfully hard to get back into the swing of things after such a nice vacation, right? It looks like that past was the perfect way to find your way around the kitchen again. I love the idea of you and your hubby cooking together- It’s so sweet! 🙂

P.S. Now I know I need to go to Seattle and have you make a map of all the places you went to! Looks so great!

I didn’t realize you were from Seattle! I’ve never been there, but it’s numero uno on my list of three cities I’d consider moving to. I definitely want to visit, at the very least. And that pasta looks so amazingly fresh and perfect for summer! Gotta love the creative method behind it 🙂
