What do you do when there is a bunch of fresh greens sitting in the refrigerator and you cant eat a salad. Make them into a Smoothie! I usually cook the greens slightly or blanch them since I cannot easily digest the raw version. With some fruit added to the smoothie, the greens taste gets hidden and though it looks like a green smoothie, it doesnt taste like one!:)
Similar to my other smoothies which usually were fruit smoothies. but this time there's a whole lotta green. Check out the collection of Smoothies, coolers and drinks on the album here , like the pretty purple Pomegranate Spple Satsuma and more!
In a deep pan or pressure cooker, Add a cup of water.
Add 4-5 big Chard leaves and soft stems chopped (I used rainbow chard), 4-5 big lettuce leaves chopped(I used red leaf lettuce), 1 pear chopped, a 1/2 inch ginger chopped, black pepper to taste, 1 teaspoon raw sugar or maple/agave, 1/4 teaspoon rock salt(kala namak), 1/8 teaspoon salt, a generous pinch of fennel powder or cumin powder(optional).
Cook on low-medium until pear is just about tender and the leaves wilted, or pressure cook for 1 whistle.
Let it cool, then blend. Add fresh lemon juice to taste, adjust salt, black pepper and water consistency.
On a great news note.. Did you hear about an entire village being relocated in India to make room for the tigers!
India is home to half of the world's rapidly shrinking wild tiger population but has been struggling to halt the big cat's decline in the face of poachers, international smuggling networks and loss of habitat.
The tiger population has plummeted from an estimated 40,000 animals in 1947,to just 1,706 in 2011.
And some super fun Photography.. Dogs underwater!:) Some pictures make the pooches look scary.. but they are having some crazy amount of fun!
