Diwali Sweets E-book

January 1, 2012 By Richa 42 Comments

The Diwali Sweets E-book is finally here. This book is now incorporated into my Print book which is available in Print and digital formats! Please buy that here!

This Diwali, whip up these goodies and surprise everyone! Or make them for any festival for that matter or celebrate just today. Celebrate your loved ones and celebrate finding this e-book.

Diwali, the festival of lights is one of the big festivals celebrated in India and is coming up on November 3. The Sweets and Desserts served for the festival are quite heavily dependent on dairy. Like any major festival or holiday in any country, we all get obsessed with vegan-izing some family favorites. With very few Vegan Indian commercial options in India and almost none in the United states, I try to vegan-ize some of my favorites around the Indian festivals that people can make at home. This year I have a decent collection that I could make into an E-book. 🙂

The names of the sweets and flavors might be new to some, but they are delicious and addictive. I have tried to keep the sweets close to traditional wherever possible, that means a few do have similar oil content as you would find in a ghee laden sweet. A good number of the recipes though are low-fat with no or little refined oil and some also use natural sugars like maple syrup. Gluten-free options are mentioned wherever possible.

***This e-book is currently not available to buy as a portion of it will be published in my upcoming print cookbook.***

What do you get in the ebook is 15 recipes. And gorgeous pictures. You can print out any page you like, frame it and put it up on the kitchen wall or refrigerator. A great reminder to make the goodies again and again 🙂

Contents

It is difficult to explain each of these exactly. Loose translation to get an idea about each of the sweets.

Mysore pak – Chickpea flour fudge, and when i say fudge, it is indeed super fudgy fudge.
Nan Khatai – Semolina Cardamom Shortbread
Sooji halwa – Semolina crumble with nuts and cranberries
Amaranth Burfi – Amaranth Coconut fudge bars
Kaju Katli – Cashew fudge diamonds
Gulab Jamun – Doughnut type balls in flavored syrup
Gluten-free Gulab Jamun – Gluten-free version
Sandesh – Melt in your mouth cheesy balls
Kesar Sandesh – Cheesy balls flavored with saffron
Rasgulla – Cheese balls/dumplings/porous matzoh ball in rose flavored syrup
Rasmalai – Cheese discs/dumplings in saffron cream
Wheat Laddoo – Wheat balls/truffles
Kesar Mawa Burfi – Saffron flavored Fudge
Besan Laddoo – Chickpea flour truffles
Coconut Burfi – Coconut fudge bars

A lot of hard work has gone into the recipes as well as making the E-book. Please do not share the recipes or photographs publicly without permission.

100% of your donation will be collectively donated to 501 c3 charities. (VSPCA(India) and Pigs Peace Sanctuary (WA, USA)

“My godsend this Diwali – This amazing eBook from Vegan Richa filled with luscious vegan Diwali sweets. I made my first Mysore pak and Kaju Katli this year following Richa Hingle ‘s recipes and both sweets were finger licking delish! ”

Susmitha – Blogger
“Imagine my thrill when Richa of Vegan Richa started to share photographs of GORGEOUS looking Rasmalais on her Facebook Page! I was totally jealous that she’s managed to get the recipe right, but I was also filled with gratitude and happiness and generally a lot of “SQUEEEEEEEES” because recipes for delicious, vegan Bengali Sweets had *finally* come into existence.
To be honest, it comes as no surprise to me that Richa was the one to crack the Rasgulla code. She is the mistress of Indian Sweets! 🙂 It also doesn’t surprise me that her first eBook is one filled with Vegan Diwali Sweets. This book is filled with gorgeous pictures and recipes for a bunch of much loved Indian desserts.”

Kathy Hester – Cookbook Author
“Richa, of Vegan Richa, is one of my favorite vegan bloggers. She creates so many amazing vegan recipes and I love her Indian twists. She’s written a great ebook for the Diwali holiday called Diwali Sweets. ”

Kristy – Blogger and cookbook author
“I’ve always been amazed by the incredible treats Richa creates for Indian holidays so I’m super excited that she’s created an e-book for an upcoming Indian holiday, Diwali.
I was absolutely floored by the book. All of the recipes sound delightful and the photography is stunning (as is all of Richa’s photography). ”

Rithika – Blogger
“Richa Hingle the super talented kitchen goddess and brilliant photographer behind Vegan Richa has made things easier for people like me looking to make vegan traditional sweet-treat recipes this Diwali. She has put together a lovely e-book called Vegan Diwali Sweets. The recipes are easy to follow and must be doubled when you make it because it’ll be over before you know it.
I tried the recipe for the Mysore Pak (Chickpea fudge squares) because that was something I ate a lot before I turned vegan. If you have eaten a Mysore Pak you should know that if you eat more than two pieces of the one with ghee (clarified butter) it’s going to leave you feeling sick with a sugar high. The best part about making and eating vegan Mysore Pak is that you can enjoy the taste and texture of the Mysore Pak without feeling heavy or sick after stuffing yourself (read myself) with the whole batch.”

I made the Kaju Katli several times now and am also taking some back to India for my mother.
