The next month is going to be busy as well. Stepping into fall, holidays, Indian festivals, cool weather, lot more baking, working on the book, and chewie sleeping more and more and fattening up. And catching up on some of Bollywood Movies if time permits. I am planning to watch this movie again. It is a gorgeous work of art. It has subtitles!

What was your favorite recipe from the month?

    Trends this year:

Not necessarily just this year, but some general trends that have caught my eye. Spiralized veggies with things. Spiralizing things has become interesting with many great books and blogs. Versions of some of the spiralized kind of recipes are already available in some regional Indian cuisines. Shredded root veggies with a tadka or tempering or with a yogurt dressing. Koshimbir (shredded salad), south indian mung dal salad with carrots etc.

Golden everything: Turmeric seems to be invading all sorts of drinks and recipes. Haldi Doodh (turmeric milk), has been served for ages in India as a calming drink to help sleep or for an upset tummy, or when you get a cold.

New trends somehow somewhere stem from the age old wisdom in food/culture. There are several blogs and books that showcase all of these in an authentic way. But the trends get popular when simplified or fusion-ized in some way. Its amazing to see how the trends pick up and shape up. There is so much more to learn to adapt and showcase some of the traditional wisdom so the options are more accessible.

Videos: I have been making and posting video recipes on the Facebook page and Youtube. Its all new and fun, but needs all new skills as well. Note to facebook, please figure out monetization on videos!.

Local Events: Vegan Wine and Vegan Cheese Tasting and Fundraiser at Tacoma on Oct 5th.

October is all about Squash, Soups, Pumpkin, Halloween and Diwali! Below, Indian Spoon fudge and a big bowl of Laksa. October onwards will also be about Book Testing which might cause a bit of a slow down. I have picked up some lazy habits through summer that I am trying to shake off so the blog doesn’t slow down. Catch me on the other side of the weekend!

Thanks for the movie recommendation! My local library has it. I saved it so maybe I will check it out when I deliver in December and watch it parts when I am awake and have time (haha hopefully)

Turmeric is now SO popular. It is nice to find some of the turmeric milks in the grocery store that I can just grab, but I am already finding some total fusion recipes. Recently I found a pumpkin spiced turmeric milk… which sounded super yummy.

I found it on a vegetarian website named Food By Mars. I haven’t tried it yet. Maybe I will make both your version and hers for a side by side taste test. ^__^

My favorite recipe was definitely the Hoisin Tofu Mushrooms. I’ve never made anything like it before and already made it a couple times.

Thanks for the link to the movie (have it on my Netflix saved queue—they don’t have it yet) as well as all the great recipes. Have made the avocado toast twice already—love it. Usually have some leftover chipotle corn, so use it in burritos or on salad. Must try the egg drop soup—can’t remember the last time I had it—way over three years since becoming vegan for sure. Yay for recipes for turmeric, both for taste and nutrition, but wish more recipes used fresh. I bought a big package of fresh turmeric root and have frozen it (hint hint!).

Excellent! Thanks. I had missed the tea recipe (yum—even black pepper and ginger). Something to look forward to: the laksa.
